Celebrating 75 Years of the NFF

NFF Nordic Academy of Management was established in 1950 in Stockholm at its first conference by the founders Professor Gerhard Törnqvist and Professor Folke Kristensson.

About 30 colleagues from Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark participated in this landmark event. The first conference marked the beginning of ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing among management scholars in the Nordic region. In 2009, Professor Erik Johnsen summarized the community’s history and key events in a single document (PDF, text available in Norwegian), helping us remember our past. Today, NFF remains an association of academics dedicated to learning and sharing insights in management theory and practice.

NFF remains committed to supporting management research and education in the Nordic region. In today’s complex global landscape, Nordic cooperation feels more relevant than ever, and we look forward to continuing this important work together in the years ahead.

In 2025, NFF celebrated its 75th anniversary through a new initiative, the Anniversary Grants. Our institutional members could apply for grants to organize events that promote Nordic research and education in management.

NFF sponsored the following Anniversary events:

  • The 2nd Nordic-Iberian Doctoral Workshop on Business Economics (at Jyväskylä University, Finland)
  • Seminar of Publishing in Public Sector Management Journals (at University of Gothenburg, Sweden)
  • Advancing Nordic Management Research through Generative AI (at BI Norwegian Business School, Norway)
